Summer Solstice

SOLSTITIUM

Celebrated June 21

The Sanctuary is decorated in colorful adornments, featuring flowers wreaths and boughs, in addition to honeysuckle, lilies, lavender, thyme, rose, wisteria, and oak branches upon which suns are hung from its branches.

  • The Service: The presiding minister will lead an early-afternoon congregation hour revolving around the meaning behind the summer solstice in addition to the symbolism represented throughout the sanctuary, and the day that is ahead of the members of the sanctuary
  • Sun gazing and A Day in the Garden: this immediately follows the service; any members of the sanctuary who wish to participate will go outside where the members of the sanctuary will be led through a ritual to honor the sun, after which people can then walk through the community garden picking fruits and vegetables, planting any summer plants, admiring the gardens, etc.
  •  The feasting: the final festivity of the day. All participating members gather together to share food and drinks, listen to music and lore, all while basking in the summer air.
    • Foods include: lemons, oranges, mangoes, peaches, nectarines, grapefruits, and vegetables like yellow squash, corn, tomatoes, honey, and anything grilled
    • Drinks include: mojitos, mead, lemonade (non-alcoholic), and hibiscus tea (non-alcoholic)
